Granary bread is a type of brown bread containing whole grains of wheat. Nothing beats homemade bread straight from the oven. Try out this Levant healthy version of granary bread that you will absolutely love it.
1. Mix the flour, salt, and yeast in a large warmed bowl. Add the sugar or treacle to the measured water and stir into the flour to make a soft pliable dough.
2. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Returned to the cleaned bowl and placed in an oiled plastic bag. Leave in a warm place for 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in bulk.
3. Turn the dough on to a lightly floured surface and cut in half. Knead each piece until smooth, then place in two 1 kg loaf tins. Place the tins in the oiled plastic bag and loosely. Leave in a warm place to prove until the dough rises above the sides of the tin.
4. Brush the loaves with beaten egg and sprinkle with buckwheat, if using. Bake in a preheated oven 220 C for 30 - 45 minutes. Leave to cool on a wire rack.
